As we adjust to conducting business during the COVID 19 pandemic – there may be a COVERAGE GAP of which you need to be aware.

Has your commercial auto insurance exposure changed as your businesses adjusts during the current COVID 19 pandemic? Are your employees using their own personal vehicles to perform job tasks on your behalf? This exposure is often overlooked, and an employer may be held liable for the actions of an employee when the actions take place under the scope of employment. Non-Owned Auto Liability Coverage can fill this coverage gap.

Claim Scenarios:

An employee is using his personal pickup truck to deliver some building supplies to a customer one afternoon for his employer. The employee has a terrible accident, is at fault and three persons are seriously injured.

You’ve closed your restaurant and are now providing take out only and delivery to your customers. Your employee is using her own vehicle to deliver meals to your customers. During a delivery she accidently hits a pedestrian at a cross walk. The pedestrian is injured and can no longer walk again.

The employer may be held liable in both of these scenarios.

Contact us to discuss this potential exposure and we’ll assist you in filling this coverage gap.

The City Manager of the City of Bangor, in consultation with the City Council Chair, has declared a civil state of emergency and directed that effective March 17, 2020, bars, restaurants, and gathering places are required to close between the hours of 8:00 pm and 2:00 am, effective for five days.

All gatherings are recommended to be limited to 10 people, in accordance with Center for Disease Control guidelines and the recommendation of the President of the United States.

“We are really proud of our business community and the fact that many have already made the very difficult decision to close,” said City Manager Catherine Conlow. “This decision is made in the interest of public health.”

This does not affect essential services like gas stations, grocery stores, and pharmacies.
